Subject:Underwater hockey

Yes, that's right. Underwater hockey.

I'm looking for people who would be interested to try out this sport. If you want to see some video of it, check here:

We play at osborn aquatic center on Wednesday nights at 7:30 PM. It's open to whoever wants to try. This week we had 11 people out to play, 3 new people who'd never played before, and they all loved it.

PUCKER UP CORVALLIS because BRYAn is gonna be back in town for the summer.

During my absence I have aquired an acute addiction to the Brazillian martial art Capoeira. I have been very actively practicing it for the past few months, and since I'm gonna be in Corvallis for at least 4 months, I don't want my skills to atrophy. My question is do any of you know of any locals who practice it? Any Corvallis Rodas I can get in on?

Thank's etc

Add me, if you wish, to your friends list. I'm pretty nice, I'll most likely add you back. :)

I'm sick to death that there is never anything cool going on here. Nurse LCD and I are at our breaking points and have decided that if there is no scene, you must make a scene. Wait, that sounded like we're going to throw a hissy fit.

Point being-- at the new year, there will be some changes. Corvallis will be cool if it kills us.

Subject:Late notice, but better than none

I would've posted something about this earlier, but I didn't get details on it until just now. Tonight, in front of the old Whiteside theater (and the new Book Bin, at 4th and Madison) there will be a concert in the street to welcome new students to OSU. Fusion Ball, a local hard rock/metal band will begin playing around 6:30, and will be there until 8:30 or so. So if you don't have anything to do tonight, you should come check them out!

Subject:X-Posted to oregonstate: saintbryan is a refugee

Greetings, folks.

My son, who some of you know as saintbryan, is a student in his second year at University of New Orleans, which just started classes a week ago. He did evacuate, making his way first to Baton Rouge, then ahead of Katrina to Nashville, then hopped a plane to Nevada where he is now with his father until next week.

Any of you who are watching this heartbreaking saga unfold would reasonably guess that he has no school to go back to, at least not this semester. Furthermore, the house he was sharing with friends and fellow students, in the Bywater district of the Ninth Ward just down river of the French Quarter, is no doubt flooded, if not gone.

So.... he's probably going to do an 11th hour transfer to OSU for the fall, if the university will accommodate him -- a slight issue with no access to records from UNO, which is completely shut down except for one emergency site.

Much as I adore him, after living with his student cohorts having adventures and growing up fast in what must be one of the greatest cities for adventures in the world, coming home to live with his momma would be something of a drag. For both of us. Should we have no choice but to settle him back into the old home, we will, of course, thank our lucky stars that he's not sitting on a roof top in the middle of that toxic soup, fighting off floating clumps of fire ants and venomous snakes looking for dry ground. That said, if we can make the situation better by finding him another house of cohorts, this would be preferable.

I would be interested in hearing from anyone who is looking for a housemate or who knows of someone looking for a housemate. You can contact him directly, of course, but he is out of LJ range until Monday.

For those of you who don't know him, he's a Corvallis High School graduate, a bit of a non-conformist, a natural born mediator, something of a comedian, a cybergoth/industrial aficionado and has a very finely tuned sense of self-preservation and responsibility, illustrated by the fact that he was his New Orleanian household's designated 'evacuation coordinator' and had everyone out of there by Saturday afternoon before the mandatory evacuation order was called. If your house needs a pet disaster watchdog, he'd be perfect.

While he went to UNO as a film/mass communications major, he now intends to pursue studies that will lead toward a disaster management related career field. New Orleans tends to make people either incredibly insouciant or incredibly conscious of danger, decay and potential destruction. Really, he's a very good natured guy, but has become none-the-less acutely aware of danger, decay and potential destruction. Not necessarily a bad thing, but it may appear a titch out of place in this placid-seeming community. Nice guy, though.

Many thanks.

Mood: hopeful

A friend and I have decided to make a book club that will meet once a month. We are tentatively titled Intelligent Individuals Initiate
Inspiring Intercourse. Naturally, the name will change after the first meeting when everyone decides on a new name. We are looking for others to join the group. Comment if you want to be part of it, or you can email me, Katie Shaw, at shawka@onid.orst.edu.

We are thinking it will be a once a month book club, but if others are quick readers also we could easily make it more frequent.

The first book will be Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides and the first meeting will take place at Interzone on July 9 at 2:00 pm.

Caitlin & the Shotglasses will be playing a show at The Old World Deli along with a vocal group, The Dots, a sixties revival rock band called the Audience, and local CHS favorites The Stack. There is an art auction and the cover charge is three dollars. Come listen to an insane three-four hours of music. Caitlin & the Shotglasses is a decent blend of jazz swing and rock, a huge eight piece band. It is this saturday, (may 28th, starts at 7pmat the Old World Deli which I believe is on 2nd street.

The Alamo Drafthouse is coming to OREGON!!!!

For one night only, The Alamo Drafthouse is having a Rolling Roadshow presentation of The Goonies in Astoria, OR, on Sept. 1. We are sooooo there. They aren't selling tickets for it yet, but you can get more info here.

For those of you who don't read my journal, the Alamo Drafthouse is the coolest theater in the world. When I lived in Austin, I would go there at least once a month for some cool event they were having. The Alamo Drafthouse is where I met Bruce Campbell. The Alamo Drafthouse is where I went to see blaxploitation films like Black Belt Jones where in we got free 40s at the door and panties printed with, "My Cookie Would Kill You!" which is one of the greatest lines from the film. The Alamo Drafthouse is where we'd go to see Mr. Sinus Theater 3000, who would skewer such movies as Footloose and Top Gun live in Mystery Science Theater 3000 style. (Besides my friends) it is the thing I miss most about Austin.

I will update again when tickets go on sale.

Pipe Layers' Union

Live at Fox & Firkin
Friday April 22
$3 cover
21+ (sorry!)

Pipe Layers' Union has been gaining momentem for the past year in Oregon with their own alchohol drenched brand of "irresponsible rock." Inspired by early ninties grunge bands such as Toadies, Pearl Jam, Silverchair, Mother Love Bone, The Melvins, Local H, and so many more, their booze-driven, fuck the masters, gritty rage-rock is both furious and melodic. A band to keep an eye on.

Astaea is a band whose past is shrouded in mystery. Little is known about it's members and their motives, but what IS know, is that they are a self described Wall of Sound who have been shunned from most bars for their sheer loudness. Courage should not be left at home when seeing this band, nor should earplugs if you fear for your precious eardrums.

This is bound to be a night to remember! See these bands before it's too late!

Subject:movie project

I updated my _movie_project community today. For those of you who did'nt know me in the summer of '04, I was working on making a feature-length post apocalyptic character drama out in the deserts of eastern Oregon. 3 reasons it didn't work out:
1) couldn't find any actresses in time,
2) didn't finish the script in time,
3) had to move to New Orleans for school.

I had promised to pick the project up again where I left off the next year, so here I am, and here it goes. My main advantage now is I have time. It's March 1st, and I've got until mid July (when I'll film it) to finish the script and cast the thing. So check out the community and if you're interested, join it. If you would like to help out (and are able to help out), then talk to me. Also, if you wanna read the story synopsis and what I have of the script so far, talk to me.

My name's Dustin and I just moved here from Indiana. I'm just sorta getting settled in and whatnot, but I thought I'd join a community or two that has something to do with around here. So, anyone know any bands needing a bassist or a drummer??? haha I guess that's the first question. The 2nd would be... eh, so who are the decent bands around here?
